This Privacy Policy applies to the Allen Coral Atlas at https://allencoralatlas.org and related websites, products and services (the "Site") operated by Vulcan Inc. ("Vulcan" or "us"). This Privacy Policy describes Vulcan's policies and practices regarding any data or information you post, upload, submit, transmit or otherwise provide to Vulcan in connection with the Site ("User Information"). By accessing or using the Site, including registering for a User Account, making Submissions or signing up for other products and services through the Site, you consent to Vulcan's collection, storage, use and disclosure of User Information as described in this Privacy Policy and agree to be legally bound to Vulcan's Terms of Use ("TOU"). Capitalized terms used but not defined in this Privacy Policy have the meanings set forth in the TOU.
Vulcan reserves the right to update or modify this Privacy Policy and TOU at any time, and will provide notice by indicating on the webpage the date last updated. You acknowledge and agree that it is your responsibility to check for any updates to the Privacy Policy and TOU, and your continued use of the Site following any such changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated terms.
- User Registration: If you register for a User Account, Vulcan may store your first and last name, email address and zip code/country. By registering for a User Account, you are agreeing to receive communications related to the Site. You may opt-out of receiving certain communications, but you cannot opt-out of receiving any administrative or legal messages from Vulcan, which Vulcan is legally obligated to do.
- Submissions: Vulcan may store any Submissions and information you provide to Vulcan via phone calls, letters, emails and other electronic messages submitted through the Site or via a third party service.
- Contact Form: If you submit any Submissions or communications using the Contact form on the Site ("Contact Form"), then Vulcan may store the information you provide, including first and last name, company name, email address, phone number. On your first name, last name and email address are required in order for you to make a submission using the Contact Form. By using the Contact Form, you agree to be contacted by Vulcan regarding your Submission using the information you provide with the Contact Form.
- Activity: Vulcan may store information about your use of the Site, including without limitation, your search activity, the pages you view, the date and time of your visit, and other activities you engage while on the Site.
- Device Transmission: Vulcan stores your Internet Protocol (IP) address, which is a number that is automatically assigned to your computer or devices when you browse the internet. Vulcan may also store other information that your computer or device transmits or provides in connection with your use of the Site, such as your IP address, browser type, type of computer or device, browser language, mobile carrier, phone number, unique device identifier, advertising identifier, location (including geolocation, beacon based location, and GPS location), and requested and referring URLs. You may be able to disallow certain location data through your device or browser settings.
The Site is developed using Active Server Pages (ASP), and we use per-session "cookies" to establish user sessions on our server. We use the cookies to carry information about usage from page to page through the Site. Vulcan does not use cookies to retrieve Personal Information (defined below) about you from your computer. Vulcan may use cookies to manage, configure and improve the operation of the Site. We may permit selected third parties to collect information from our Site visitors about their online activities over time and across different websites. Most browsers are set up to accept cookies, but you may change your browser settings to refuse them, to the extent possible. If you disable cookies, your browser may experience some erratic behavior on some portions of the Site. We do not currently use technology that responds to "do not track" signals from your web browser.
Vulcan uses Google Analytics to gather statistics for some of its web pages. The information gathered is used to improve the Site and Vulcan's services. The Site incorporates the Google Tag Manager (GTM) for this purpose. GTM is a tag management system to manage JavaScript and HTML tags used for tracking and analytics on websites. Tags are small code elements that, among other things, are used to measure traffic and visitor behavior. Google Analytics uses a browser cookie for statistical analysis related to your browsing behavior on these websites. If you choose, you can opt out by turning off cookies in the preferences settings in your browser, or download and install Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. If you register for a User Account or use the Contact Form, you will be asked to provide personal or identifiable information, including first and last name, company name, email address, phone number and zip code ("Personal Information"). Except as provided below under "Disclosures for Legal Reasons," we will not sell, trade or otherwise provide Personal Information without your consent or authorization to any third party other than to entities affiliated with Vulcan or vendors we engage to perform functions on our behalf with respect to the Site, which are subject to similar restrictions as set forth in this Privacy Policy. With respect to your User Account, we will only use Personal Information for the purposes of sending you notifications, updates and information regarding the Site. If you use the Contact Form, we will only use the Personal Information you provide to address, respond or follow-up to your Submission and related communications. We may compile and provide aggregate statistics about our Site visitors to third parties, but these statistics will not include any Personal Information.
Personal Information collected on the Site will be stored and processed in the United States and by using the Site, you expressly consent to any such transfer of information outside of your country.
Vulcan is committed to protecting the security of your Personal Information. We use a variety of security technologies and procedures to help protect your Personal Information from unauthorized access, use or disclosure. You have the right to access and correct the Personal Information you have provided by contacting us at support@allencoralatlas.org.
The Site is a general audience site and Vulcan does not knowingly collect any Personal Information from children.
As provided in the TOU, Vulcan does not accept or collect Submissions containing confidential or proprietary information. Consequently, Vulcan may use Submissions for any purpose whatsoever.
Vulcan may disclose your User Information, including Personal Information, when it believes, in its sole discretion, that disclosure is necessary to comply with applicable laws; protect and defend the rights or property of Vulcan or others; or act under exigent circumstances to protect the personal safety of the public or the users of the Site; or in the event that all or part of our operations are transferred through a merger, acquisition or sale.
This Privacy Policy applies only to information collected by Vulcan in connection with the Site. The Site may contain Third Party Content, which are governed by such third parties' respective privacy policies. Vulcan has no control over the collection, storage or use of your information by such third parties and has no responsibility to you for any Third Party Terms. You assume the sole risk and liability for any information that is collected, stored or transmitted to third parties or outside of the Site.
Vulcan does not disclose your personal information to third parties for the purpose of directly marketing their services to you unless you first agree to such disclosure. Please contact us if you have any questions regarding this policy.
If Vulcan is going to use Personal Information in a manner different from that stated at the time of collection through the Site, Vulcan will notify those from whom Vulcan has collected Personal Information via email. You will then have a choice as to whether or not we may continue using your Personal Information in this different manner. In addition, if we decide to make any material changes in our privacy practices, we will post a notice on the Site notifying you of the change.
